About the teacher
Hi there, my name is Chase Arocha originally from Central Florida. I have been playing music live since age 13, I was a self taught bass player then moving to guitar at age 17. I then attended Seminole State College music program for guitar performance, for some time after I began to get hired for Musicals for many of the colleges and high school pit bands. I then moved to Los Angeles and attended the Musicians Institute for Guitar, I spent the last 3 years gigging around LA doing work for studio sessions and live artist. During all of this I have always done original music and taught students, it is one of my favorite things of our craft is to be able to teach the great gift we have to others eager to learn. I moved to Portland to establish myself as a teacher while being able to play in the great live scene of the city.
Education relevant to teaching music
I received cello instruction from 10 to 12, then started playing bass being self instructed till 18 when I attended Seminole State College majoring in Guitar performance. After sometime of gigging in the Central Florida area I moved to Los Angeles to attend the Musicians Institute for Guitar Performance.
Teaching philosophy and approach to teaching
I am extremely patient and focus on not overloading my students with information every lesson. I very much take my time and make sure the student not just understands patterns of scales but how to form scales and arpeggios on their own while learning every spot on their fretboard. I teach the cage system and always listen to what the students goals are with the guitar and why they want to enjoy music in the first place. I tend to shift my lesson plans for my students and not the other way around.
