About the teacher
My name is Curtis Worzalla and I have recently moved to the Milwaukee area. I am very passionate about music and continue to be an active composer, performer and teacher. I also have teaching experience in several different learning environments. These range from one-on-one guitar and music theory lessons to my experience as a GTRA at Truman State University.
I graduated from Truman State University in May of 2012 with a Master of Arts in music composition. Prior to this I went to Luther College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in classical guitar performance. Now that I have moved to Milwaukee, I strive to broaden my own musicianship abilities by focusing on fingerstyle guitar. Another main goal is to focus my compositional abilities towards solo fingerstyle guitar music. With this, I would like to release a solo guitar album and become an active performer in the area.

Teaching philosophy and approach to teaching
My approach to teaching is flexible and I strive to accommodate the various learning styles of my students. In guitar lessons, I like spend the first lesson learning about my student’s goals. Some students may want a more rigorous classical training to prepare them for an undergraduate program. In this case, music theory would be incorporated into my guitar lessons. My student would learn repertoire using multiple methods, including standard notation, tablature and by ear. I also feel comfortable teaching students who have no academic pursuit in the guitar, and would alter my teaching methods based on the goals of my student.
During composition lessons I would take the same flexible approach. I feel very comfortable teaching forms and compositional techniques of multiple styles. Over the past seven years I have composed orchestral music, chamber music, choral music and solo guitar music. I also have experience song writing and text setting. These skills will allow me to teach a wide array of students, enabling them to be skilled and purposeful composers in any style.
