About the teacher
I will be getting my Bachelor’s in Music and my Bachelor’s in History from the University of Southern California in a month. I am an adept guitar player in a multitude of styles including jazz, rock, and blues. Teaching is one of my passions I have spent a lot of my time as a student at USC Thornton School of Music teaching music through the Thornton Outreach program to students from Grade 3 to Grade 12. My first experience teaching was teaching an autistic child when I was 16 and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I love teaching guitar and igniting that same spark for music in others that my teacher did for me when I was younger.
Education relevant to teaching music
I have a double Bachelor of Arts in Music and History from the University of Southern California.
Teaching philosophy and approach to teaching
As a music teacher my first goal is to build and utilize the student’s interest in music. I like to learn what they’re favorite music is and what they would like to learn. From this, I can teach them the music theory, technique, and skills to play and create music that they love. For example, with a student who loves The Beatles, I might teach them George Harrison’s guitar solo in “Something” as a means of learning the C Major Pentatonic scale and how it can be used when improvising.
