Teaching Children, Adults or Both?

About the teacher
I am a musician and teacher in the Milwaukee area trying to expand my student body. As a student, I had schedule limitations, but am now available to work full time. I love teaching one on one and coaching small groups. I am proficient in both Spanish and French, and have traveled extensively. I love meeting people of different backgrounds and learning about their ways of approaching situations and difficulties. I believe my experiences abroad have helped me to understand people on a deeper level. When a student runs into a problem, I find a way to look at it from their perspective, and find an efficient way to solve it.

Education relevant to teaching music
I am a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where I received an undergraduate flute performance degree. I started music at a young age, beginning with piano at the age of 7 and flute at the age of 10. I quickly started playing in youth programs such as Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, UWM Youth Wind Ensembles, WSMA State Honors Band and Orchestra, and various music summer camps. In high school, I created an independent study program where I coached the flute section and gave free one-on-one lessons to each of the students. During college, I lived in Paris, France, which gave me the opportunity to study at L'Ecole Normale de Musique and play in an orchestra in the city for a year. My flute teachers include Andrea Snavely, Caen Thomason-Redus, Judith Ormond, Patricia Nagle, and Jennifer Clippert
Teaching philosophy and approach to teaching
I believe it is important to meet a student and base lesson plans around their specific learning styles. I teach all students scales, arpeggios, solos, and sight reading. For students that are ready to be in ensembles and participate in music competitions, I spend a good amount of time teaching them about auditions, blending with ensembles, and becoming a leader in a group setting.
