About the teacher
My name is Jacob Fischer, and I’ve been playing classical and fingerstyle guitar for about 10 years now. I spent 2 years studying guitar performance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City under Doug Niedt but I encountered some unexpected financial aid problems when I attempted to enroll for my 3rd year. Since then I have been working part time and attending classes at Johnson County Community College. Currently I am the vice president of JCCC Pride, the LGBTQ+ organization on campus as well as helping to start a musicsinging club. I love to play guitar and I love to teach and watch students get that moment when what they’ve been practicing just clicks and it takes their playing to a new level
Education relevant to teaching music
I began classical guitar lessons during my Freshmen year of high school and continued to take private classical lessons for about 8 years. I also have used what I have learned from my lessons to become very proficient at fingerstyle guitar as well as the ukulele. I have also completed 4 semesters of Music Theoryear training as well at UMKC.
Teaching philosophy and approach to teaching
The best way to approach teaching largely depends on the student and how they learn, I think. I like to find out my students goals and what they ultimately want out of the guitar and try to create a lesson plan that will mesh well with a students individual needs.
